In the months of January and February, a different season than winter occurs, award season. Award shows including the Golden Globes, The Oscars, The Grammys and the SAG awards will take place in these next two months, with many winning life-changing awards. Over the past two weeks a lot of information has come out about nominations for these award show, as well as several scandals, so this is the wrap up of the award show news:

  • On December 7th, Grammy Nominations were announced with Kendrick Lamar and Drake both leading with 7 nominations each, and notable snubs being Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift.
  • On December 11th, Golden Globes Nominations were announced with most shocked not to see Steve McQueen’s Widows in the running for more awards while A Star Is Born is nominated for Best Motion Picture- Drama, instead of being nominated for Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical.
  • On December 12th, nominations for the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards came out, with Regina King being snubbed for If Beale Street Could Talk and surprisingly, Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen Biopic, was nominated for Outstanding Cast over movies like Vice and The Favourite.
  • Lastly, in Oscar news, the nominations have not yet come out but a scandal has. On December 7th, it came out that Kevin Hart would host the Oscars, however, this was met with immediate backlash over homophobic tweets by Hart in 2009 and 2010. This lead the Academy to tell Hart that he needed to either apologize or have to step down, and he chose to step down. On Twitter, Hart explained his decision by saying, “…this is because I do not want to be distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past”.  The Oscars currently have no host.

More information will be coming in next couple of weeks, and hopefully soon an answer on what will happen with the Oscars will come out.
