The Point Boro Football team is currently sitting at 2-3 halfway through the season. Starting the season off with a win against Barnegat (23-13), but then 3 losses to private powerhouse Donovan Catholic (55-0), Raritan (35-14), and Shore Regional (37-30). Their most recent game ended with a 27-7 win at Monmouth Regional.
The Panthers’ game against Shore Regional was a nail biter. With 5 lead changes, the Shore Regional Blue Devils got the go-ahead touchdown with 47 seconds left in regulation.
Boro’s game against Monmouth started off with a touchdown four offensive plays into the game. With a questionable penalty at the end of the first half, Boro went into halftime with a 13-7 lead. Boro’s defense held the Monmouth Regional Falcons to 63 rushing yards and 65 passing yards with one turnover. The Boro Offense rallied for a total of 394 yards, 284 rusing and 110 passing. Another impressive stat from the game was the Boro offense sonverting on 80% of third down plays. All in all, each of the three phases performed well and Boro came away with a much needed win.
With three more games to go, the Panthers hope to end off the season strong, up next for the Panthers is a bye week followed by an away game at Ocean Township. The season will end with two home games against Lacey and Manchester.
So far this year, sophomore Charlie Vitale leads the team in touchdowns with two on the ground and four passing. Senior Sam Young has three receiving touchdowns and junior Nick Tuzzolino has three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving. Senior Colby Biggs had a leaping touchdown from a 17-yard scoring run. Seniors Cole Young, Joey Picolli, and junior Nick Tuzzilino have interceptions on the year.
The only returning starters going into the season were Senior Captain Dan Meccia, Senior Captain Chris Boud, Senior Jake Magley, and Junior Nick Tuzzolino.
