Who doesn’t love free ice cream and Italian ice? Dairy Queen and Rita’s have both given out over one million ice cream and ices in just one day. On March 20th, the first day of spring, these tasty treat establishments were giving out one free small vanilla cone or one small ice of any flavor in celebration of the new equinox.

This trend has been taking place for more than a decade. Mile long lines of kids wait to get their hands on one of these sugary desserts with their happy parents waiting alongside them. This is a national celebrated day that everyone including Dairy Queen, Rita’s, Baskin Robbins, and Ben & Jerry’s take part in. 

Here in Point Pleasant, you know it is spring when you see students of all grades riding their bikes around town to get a free cone from Dairy Queen, then to grab a free Italian ice from Rita’s. 

So where are you going for your free cone or ice next year: Dairy Queen or Rita’s… or BOTH??
