Meet Mr. Crystal

He started making jewelry after he retired and from seeing all of the beautiful stones, he began to study them. He came to the flea market to come collect stones and met a man whom he became friends with. His friend now owns a crystal store in New York and he took over the stand for him.

He said he bought a book about 10 years ago describing the crystals energies with pictures to coincide. A few weeks about he bought another book that also describes each crystal in detail, about 2-3 ½ pages per crystal. He seemed to appear disappointed that this new book didn’t have any pictures though he still has the other book with the images.

The pieces that were being sold ranged from all over, there was amethyst and citrine from Brazil, crystal points from Madagascar, and a very rare stone called Druzy Chrome chalcedony from Turkey, he made it very clear that it was not the bird. Recalling an encounter with a customer, the man in the cowboy hat said a customer once said they “Hope the turkey wasn’t hurt when the stone came out of his body.” A look of shock waved over his face as the customer commented, he noted it was one of the weirdest things a customer had ever said.

He had a few pieces of pyrite, also known as fool’s gold, that he said were bigger pieces then the ones you would normally find because they came from outside of the country.

The sign about Druzy Chrome chalcedony says that the druzy effect refers to tiny crystals on the surface that case the tiny pieces to sparkle beautifully from every angle in the light.

He explained the flourite was one of his favorite stones. He talked passionately about how he had a light system at home in which he puts fluorite on top of the light so it can display the various different purples and greens that fluorite consists of. He ran to the back of his stand to grab a flashlight to show all of the beautiful colors. He even shown the light onto the druzy chrome chalcedony to show the glittering pieces of crystal against the green chalcedony.

Unfortunately, I did not get the name of this man, but his cowboy hat and his friendliness will remain memorable forever.

I made my way to his stand a few times during this trip and purchased a smoky quartz point. He explained that smoky quartz was great for grounding and stabilization energies.

Overall this experience was amazing and I loved learning about all the crystals at his stand. He seemed very passionate about the crystals and what he does for a living after retiring.

He concluded, “I feel sorry for that turkey.”
