Girls Swim Team finally wins against Manasquan

Swimmers celebrate victory over Manasquan

On Tuesday, December 11th, 2018, the girls swim team defeated Manasquan 93-77 at the Camp Zehnder YMCA. This was the girls second win of the season, the first being Manchester Township where they won 124-46 at the Ocean County YMCA in Toms River.

For the first time in the Swim team’s history, the girls won against Manasquan. This defeat was a tremendous win for the lady panthers.

Girls Captain and senior, Alexa Petersen, said, “It was a big victory and I am really proud of the team.”

The team was leading during the short break by two points. The atmosphere was tense, with the agonizing rivalry.
Coach Ryan said, “This was a milestone that we have been working towards for a long time. The win was a total team effort with every point and finish counting. We couldn’t have win it without the 1st place finished and we couldn’t have won it without the 5th place finished! Total team effort! This is a team that works together very well!”.

Alexis Jankovich swam the 50 freestyle and came in with a time of 25.59. Swimming the 100 Butterfly, Sarah Santos finished with a time of 1:02.93. Santos also swam the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.83. Bridget Cleveland swam the 100 backstroke and finished with a time of 1:06.52. Each swimmer placed first in their events.

Finishing first, Bridget Cleveland, Anna Jankovich, Nicole Sleys, and Alexis Jankovich placed first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.67. Trinity Steinmetz, Sarah Santos, Alexis Jankovich, and Bridget Cleveland swam the 200 medley relay and placed first with a time of 1:59.80.

On December 19th, the girls came out victorious once again, defeating Barnegat 135-35.

The next meet is Tuesday, January 8th 2019, at the Camp Zehnder YMCA against Lacey.
