Baseball Preview
The Baseball Team is coming off the best season in Point Boro history going 23-7, winning the schools 1st ever Ocean County Title, and the schools 6th ever sectional title. Graduating just 3 starters last season, the Panthers are a senior heavy team who believe it’s time for the schools first ever Overall Group II State Championship which they lost last season to Pascack Hills. The Team is led by senior ace Nick Guzzi, who is highlighted by a fastball in the mid to low 90s. The Panthers have plenty of bats this year as well as pitching depth with almost the entire team being able to play all 9 spots. Seniors Oscar Scott (transfer from Shore) and Kyle Fisher (transfer from Cherokee) are sure to be key parts to the team this year as they will be filling in for graduates Christian Aurin and Sam Collins.
Coach Drew was also last years Shore Sports Network “Coach of the Year.” When asked about what regular season games he is looking forward too he said, “Game 1 against Barneget. It is a very exciting start to the season, and I can’t wait to see the team come together for the first time this year. Also our division rivals Jackson Liberty.” We also asked him what his expectations are for the upcoming season and he said, “We’re going to compete in and win every game at hand, and leave our mark in the division, Ocean County Tournament, Shore Conference Tournament, and the State Tournament.” He also went on to explained that he is excited to play in the Phillipsburg showcase on April 11th.
With Big expectations this season, the team knows they have to take it one game at a time if they want to carry over their success from last season possibly even surpass last year’s successful season.
