Ye and Drake Take the Stage

Ye and Drake Free Larry Hoover Benefit

Over the last couple of years, Ye West and Drake have been beefing. Recently, the pair buried the hatchet and came together to try and bring people together. Ye and Drake have teamed up to do a once in a lifetime performance at the LA Coliseum on December 9th. At the performance, Ye will attempt the ultimate test of trying to free Larry Hoover.

In an interview about the event, Ye says, “I believe this event will not only bring awareness to our cause but prove to people everywhere how much more we can accomplish when we lay our pride aside and come together.”

Ye posted a video, saying he would like to team up with Drake in a concert to free Larry Hoover. Hoover is an American gang leader in Chicago, Illinois. He was a part of the Gangster Disciples (commonly known as the G.D’s), one of the most notorious gangs in the country. In 1973, Hoover committed a homicide, and was sentenced to 150-200 years in jail. He is now locked up in the A.D.X. prison, which houses inmates the government deems are the worst offenders. Larry Hoover has three children: Larry Bennard, Tyree Hoover, and Larry Hoover Jr. The family is fighting for equal rights for themselves and their community. Larry Hoover Jr talks about his family’s history, and how it’s influenced people’s reactions towards them.

“You know to me it kinda feels like me, my mother, my brothers, and my kids have all been incarcerated through this journey, and we haven’t even been to jail. We have been looked at, and treated as criminals for being a part of this family. My father’s truth and the reality that he raised me in is that he wanted to make a change in his community.” This quote highlights that the Hoover family has been treated unfairly and deserve better.

Today, Larry Hoover is elderly and his health is deteriorating. He has no reasons to do what he did in the past. Winndye Jenkins, Hoover’s wife, said, “What is he going to do? He is 71 years old and starting to have some health issues. He has never held his son in his arms or spent any time with his grandchildren. He has never been able to touch them in no kind of way.”

Hoover has served more than enough time for the crimes he committed and it is now time for a change for the Hoovers. It’s time that Larry Hoover gets to be free from one of the most segregated prisons in America, and be able to see the impact his son has made and the great family has created.

Ye and Drake’s concert will be streamed on Amazon music, and prime video also in select IMAX theaters. This is what the head of Amazon Studio had to say about this historical event.

“We’re extremely proud to be working with Ye and Drake on this historic concert in support of a cause they are both so passionate about, and to collaborate across Amazon for this epic entertainment event,” said Jennifer Salke. This collaboration will most likely break records for live streaming a concert.

Both of these artists have made a historical impact on music this year, and the performance has a very good chance of winning album of the year. Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ album debuted September 3rd 2021, and was expected to sell 500,000 copies within the first week. Ye also had a successful year. His long-anticipated album ‘Donda’ debuted a week before Drake’s. Ye sold 309,000 copies of his album, and both copies are the top contenders for album of the year.

The show yielded a huge turnout, and shows that people can be brought together and differences can be set aside. Ye performed 14 songs, and a great cover of ‘Find Your Love’. Drake joined Ye on the stage during his ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing’ performance.

Unfortunately, Ye and Drake did not successfully free Larry Hoover. However, they got the word out to over 10 million people, which shows that more people will know about the case of Larry Hoover. Overall, this concert was one for the record books, and one that will go down in history as the 2 greats had put on a great show.
