Point Boro High School Hits the Slopes

Calling all skiers and snowboarders this winter at Point Pleasant Boro High School, students will be able to go on fun trips to the slopes! This newly founded club established last year by Mackenzie Woit, Kelly Doles, and Kate Willis, provides students with multiple fun opportunities to go skiing and snowboarding.

This year the ski club will be going to Belleayre NY, Hunter NY, and Elk PN. Point Boro ski club has 3 trips each year, the first trip is already full but, there are still two others to join! In order to join you need an approved physical, a signed permission slip, and you need to turn in your check as soon as possible. Trips are for experienced skiers and snowboarders who are qualified to ski on their own. All school rules apply when on the mountains. In this club, you also need to bring your own equipment because they can not rent equipment on the mountain.

As trips can be pricey, students can sign up for fundraising events such as bake sales, car washes, and clothing sales. These events allow the trips to become more affordable for students.

None of this would be possible without our club advisors, Phys. ed. teacher Mrs. Bruno and Art teacher Mr. Bauer. When interviewed Mrs. Bruno shared with us what exactly went into putting together this club and her opinions on this year’s upcoming trips.

Mrs. Bruno described, “It took a little time to wait and have the club passed by the Board of Education. After that, it took about two months to figure out the nuisances of handing in all the proper paperwork, having the time for checks to clear, and getting the appropriate signatures. The club advisors, myself, and Mr. Bauer have put in a tremendous amount of effort and time into making this club a success.  We hope it continues to grow!”

She also went on to say how excited she was for this year’s upcoming trip and what new members should know: “I’m so excited to be traveling to another new Mountain this year~ I haven’t been to Belleayre yet! Last year most of us experienced Elk Mountain for the first time and we were pleasantly surprised and to all the new members: we collect the first check for the lift ticket & then I split the bus cost by that number to get the amount you need to pay for the bus.  Processing all of this takes time, so when there is a due date it is firm.”

Mr. Bauer went on to explain that, “the ski club is a great opportunity and a new group to join in its early stages. The more support, the more growth, and the more enjoyment we will have because I feel it’s super fun!”

This club was highly successful last year and we are excited to see how it evolves for years to come!
