Ronzoni Discontinues Beloved Pastina

Pasta connoisseurs, Italians, and toddlers all over the country were devastated by a post on the Ronzoni pasta brand’s official Instagram page earlier this month announcing the discontinuation of their pastina, a type of pasta shaped like little tiny five-pointed stars, sometimes referred to as ‘Italian penicillin’ due to a cultural tradition of preparing the food for sick children or family members.

The account, @ronzonipasta, shared the post  January 3, stating: “After extensive efforts, we regretfully announce that Ronzoni Pastina is being discontinued… We searched extensively for an alternative solution but were unable to identify a viable option to make Pastina in the same beloved small shape, size and standards you have come to expect from Ronzoni.”

Many fans experienced the five stages of grief in the comments: denial (“@delilahrapkinn: I call cap,”) anger (“@mimiree_lee: No pastina? I’ll take my business to another pasta brand,”) bargaining (@chrisventuraart: HELP US @tomcruise. USE YOUR WITCHCRAFT. HELP US @oprah,”) depression (@justdibb: Wow jumping off the Verrazano at 8pm. Bye,”) and acceptance (“@christinalorenc: Everyone chill Barilla makes pastina.) As pointed out by the last commenter, although this may be unfortunate news for both Ronzoni and lovers of Ronzoni pastina, there are several brands that still make pastina, such as Barilla and San Giornio.

Will the company ever bring back their clearly beloved Pastina? As of right now it is discontinued indefinitely, but as written in the Ronzoni pasta Instagram account’s bio: “Life is full of pastabilities.”
