Point Pleasant Boro Field Hockey is on a roll and are currently 6-0. The Lady Panthers now sit ranked #1 in the Shore Conference and #6 in the state, according to NJ.com. Despite losing a big senior class, the team seems to be just fine with the returners they have. Caroline Dekenipp, a Senior Captain Midfielder, is leading the team in goals and is only a few away from 100 career goals. Codi Damerau and Camryn Johnson have major roles offensively, as well as Haley Fox and Claire Pausz’s importance on the defensive end.
The Rams were ranked 4th in the Shore Conference. The last time the two teams played was the previous year when Boro defeated Southern 3-0 on Southern’s grass field. This game was crucial in determining who would most likely win the new A-South Division and help for seeding purposes in the Shore Conference Tournament.
The final score was Point Boro 3, Southern 0. Goals were scored by Haley Fox, Kylie Repasky, and Kylee Durso. Haley Fox started the momentum for the Panthers by scoring off a penalty corner in the first quarter. Then a second goal was scored by freshman Kylie Repasky who recorded her first career goal. Lastly, Kylee Durso scored in the third quarter to top things off for the Panthers after getting the ball near the stroke line. Boro’s defense held strong and recorded another shutout. Claire Pausz had 10 saves and battled through the muddy field conditions. Boro is now 6-0 on the season, while Southern falls to 4-2.
Haley Fox played a solid game and was able to stay composed on the grass. Haley was able to start things for the Panthers after using an elimination move around the flyer and then the goalie to send the ball into the back of the net.
She said in a post-game interview, “Offensively the surface was rough but we managed to pass and get the simple things right while getting a 3-0 shutout.”
The Panthers have some big games coming up including playing Shawnee this weekend and Shore Regional, who’s ranked #5 in the state, on October 3rd. Come out and support the Boro Field Hockey Team!
