Danilo Cavalcante escaped from Chester County Prison on August 31 after his trial for murdering his ex-girlfriend. After two weeks of being on the run, he was finally found.
Cavalcante killed his ex-girlfriend for allegedly informing the police that he was wanted in Brazil. Her death was the result of a brutal stabbing which happened in their home in Schuylkill Township, Pennsylvania in April of 2021.
Cavalcante escaped through the exercise yard by crab-walking up the walls in a narrow hallway and got onto the roof from there, a law enforcement official told CNN. His escape was a cause for dire concern as Cavalcante was convicted of a particularly gruesome and violent crime. The prisoner was considered to be desperate, extremely dangerous, and a threat to the public while on the run.
After escaping from the roof of Chester County Jail, Cavalcante was on the run for two weeks and was finally found in South Coventry Township, 30 miles away from the jail he escaped in. He was found behind a pile of wood logs next to a John Deere store. They had K9 dogs and thermal sight helicopters to locate the fugitive. Cavalcante had possible intentions of fleeing to Mexico and later going back to Brazil.
Cavalcante was convicted of first-degree murder and will serve a life sentence. His trial ended August 16 of 2023 and he escaped 15 days later. After 13 days on the run, he was finally caught and brought back to jail.
After capture, Cavalcante was moved to a maximum security prison, Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution, where he will serve the remainder of a life sentence for his murder conviction.
