As the SAT is approaching on October 7th and the PSAT on October 11th, it is important to be prepared! Here are some tips and tricks for you to make sure you’re ready. Ms. Salvatoriello, Point Pleasant Boro Guidance Counselor, gave us some tips from studying material to getting a good night’s rest.
First, she advised us that it is worth it to spend the money to get a tutor, take prep classes, and buy a book full of tips and practice problems. She informed us about resources on Khan Academy and SCOIR that will help you get familiar with the substance of the test.
Getting away from practice testing, she mentioned that taking the SAT is all about test-taking strategies. There are ways to get good at these strategies such as reading a book that gives pointers on the strategies.
Many high school students state that if you are taking the SAT it is good to be aware of the tips and tricks beforehand. The SAT Student Guide states, “Become familiar with the test so you’re not surprised or confused on test day. Learn the test directions. The directions for answering the questions in this guide are the same as those on the actual test.”
Other test-taking strategies you can practice are being able to sit for long periods of time. Ms. Salvatoriello said that the test is long and is a lot of sitting, so getting yourself prepared to sit for a long time without any distractions such as reaching for your phone is crucial. Having a good night’s rest is also very important for the test so you can keep your stamina up during the test. Not only should you get a good night of sleep the night before your test but you should also get good sleep a few days prior to the test. When preparing for your big day keep these tips in mind and you’re sure to succeed.
Good luck with the upcoming PSAT & SAT!
