On October 24, 2023 Point Pleasant held the Community Park “Trunk or Treat” for little kids and their families to attend. For little kids, it is very hard to go trick or treating to the many houses in their area and it can be very overwhelming for them to see so many scary costumes and large crowds of people walking around the neighborhood. Because of this, many towns have created a safer and more comfortable environment to trick or treat.
“Trunk or Treat” is where people volunteer to design their cars with Halloween decorations. Many cars have a theme and volunteers dress to match. A lot of sponsors are local as well, so parents know that it is safe. Most of the time the Trunk or Treat is located at a school, park, or even the police station. Kids go from car to car picking up candy.
However, this year people have noticed that there are more high schoolers attending the event. Many believe that older kids should not attend because it was made for younger kids, although technically there is no age limit to the event and anyone can go to it. Instead of complaining about the issue, we should create ideas that will benefit both groups because in my opinion, I believe that older kids should be allowed to participate, especially if they are being respectful and enjoying the activity.
Senior Sofia E. believes that “There should be an age limit, high schoolers can have separate time for trunk or treat then little kids.” This is a very good idea that would benefit both groups; for example, younger groups attend from 3-6 p.m. and then the older group attend 6-9 p.m. Therefore, both groups can enjoy the event with no issues caused by crowds.
At the end of the day, Trunk or Treat is a fun day and Halloween activity that everyone should enjoy.
