After 25 years of serving the best Italian ice, Strollo’s Lighthouse in Point Pleasant Beach has officially decided to close their windows. Strollo’s has been a family tradition for decades. It all started with Tony Strollo bringing his family recipe from Italy to Long Beach as a child. The original recipe was served from the opening of Strollos in 1976 till the closing in 2023. This golden recipe was crafted in his garage. He believed in his recipe and hauled it to the beachfront hoping to serve others for them to enjoy. Strollo’s dream of making it big in the Italian ice business was becoming a reality. He passed his secrets along to his son, Ray, who carried on the tradition in the 70’s.
In 1976, his son, Ray, grabbed a friend in the soft-serve ice cream business and together they perfected a recipe. To go along with the traditional lemon flavor, they added other amazing flavors including orange, cherry, and chocolate. This made Strollo’s Lighthouse become more popular than ever!
Years later, Ray hired his nephew to be in charge of the counter. His nephew took Strollo’s to the next level as he opened a few successful locations in Long Branch, Red Bank, West End, Point Pleasant Beach, and Belford.
The closing of Strollo’s in Point Beach is hard to hear for many. Although the reason for closing the doors is not disclosed, nostalgic memories of getting ice on hot summer nights by the beach will be missed dearly by locals and vacationers in the summer months. Nothing will ever beat Strollo’s italian ice which could make driving to other locations be worth it!
Although the windows at the Point Beach location are closing, it doesn’t mean the support has to! On the Strollo’s website, they offer super cute merchandise so you can represent the best Italian ice all year long. Check out the website at Strollo’s Lighthouse https://strolloslighthouse.com!
