Winning big isn’t everything, but the show Barnum has done GREAT throughout the 2023 season. Barnum has pulled through with some incredible stats, especially for the color guard section of the marching band!
Point Pleasant Borough Color Guard has received awards in high auxiliary every outdoor competition in October, as well as one in September. What’s so show-stopping about this fact is that October 28th was State Championships and the Marching Band competed at Toms River HS East where the guard was individually scored at 18.870/20, beating 49 other color guards in the entire state of New Jersey out of 52 bands of every division, putting them in third place compared to two other bands. The entire marching band as a whole scored 93.740, receiving second place out of nine bands in division 3-A!
This success doesn’t come without a price. The PPBHS Marching Band has put in a lot of hours! Each member spent approximately 315 hours practicing for this fall activity. It seems as though the marching band took P.T. Barnum’s quote to heart, “Whatever you do, do it with all your might. Work at it, if necessary, early and late, in season and out of season, not leaving a stone unturned, and never deferring for a single hour that which can be done just as well now.”
Senior guard member, Ava Candelmo, shared just how much the recent awards meant to her saying, “It was honestly so rewarding, the amount of times that we’ve worked through the show and the countless hours that we have all put in feels so worth it, when we perform the greatest show. Especially us seniors, it’s our last season and constantly winning best guard brings all of our senior guard members to another level of enjoyment.” Another senior guard member, Mahlia Decker, adds “I couldn’t be more proud . . . The way we work together really helped us win and brought us together even more as a family.”
The official end of the Competition Marching Band season for the Point Pleasant Borough Marching Band was November 5, 2023! They won big, getting first place with a score of 95.55, incredibly enough, this score is one of the highest ever received in Point Pleasant Borough Marching Band history; They’ve won awards in all categories, best percussion, music, visuals, and guard! The colorguard along with the entire marching band rejoiced. It really was the greatest end to the greatest show!
