When you get to a certain age, the holidays do not feel the same. When you were little in elementary school, Christmas felt so magical and filled with wonder. It was exciting going to school because we would watch festive movies like Polar Express, drink hot chocolate, and make arts and crafts. Then, Christmas day brought so much happiness wondering what Santa left for you under the tree.
As we get older, the holidays don’t seem to be enchanting anymore and often the responsibilities and pressures of growing up can take away the excitement. However, it doesn’t mean we can’t find joy in the holiday season, even if it doesn’t feel exactly the same as when we were younger. We can create new traditions and memories, and spend valuable time with family and friends.
Something you can do when you’re older to get into the holiday spirit is host a movie marathon for family or friends. Get cozy with some blankets and yummy snacks, and enjoy a night of watching all your favorite holiday classics!
You can also volunteer for a good cause – I mean Christmas is the holiday of giving, so why not give back? In Point Pleasant, there are plenty of food drives or collections for local charity organizations. Here at the high school, you can participate in the PPBHS Student Council’s Toy and Gift Drive. Also, the Be On Point Team is hosting their annual Holiday Card Photo Challenge – so grab a group of your friends and strike a pose.
Another festive activity is to visit New York City and see the Rockefeller Tree. At Rockefeller Center, you can go ice skating, view the lights, and enjoy a nice dinner.
The holiday spirit might change once you get older, but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy this amazing season; it’s about finding new ways to create joyful moments with loved ones. Whether it’s through hosting a movie marathon, doing good deeds, or visiting other places, there are endless ways to make the holidays memorable.
So this year, embrace the spirit, surround yourself with loved ones, and make your Christmas special!
