As we know, Taylor Swift has had a wild year so far with her Eras Tour, but her stint in Brazil has been especially rough. From her heel breaking on her shoes, to a lack of available water, and even a fan tragically dying from the extreme heat and dehydration, the start to her international tour has proven to be a challenge.
In Brazil, the temperature has been the biggest obstacle that the tour has faced. Between the oppressive heat and humidity, temperatures reached a sweltering 120 degrees. According to the Washington Post, “Climate historian Maximiliano Herrera tweeted the heat index reached as high as 137 degrees in Rio’s suburbs.”
According to NPR, a 23 year old fan, Nilton Santos, suffered cardiac arrest due to the extreme temperatures during the concert. The morning after the death of Santos, Swift stated her sorrow over the loss of her beloved fan. Later that day, she knew it was best for the safety of herself, the performers, and her fans to postpone her show. She rescheduled and that ended up being the best choice she could’ve made.
The tour finished its Brazil leg peacefully, however, nothing can make-up for the tragic life lost. Swift is now on a break until early February. Let’s all hope her tour continues without any additional issues in the new year.
