By now, everyone knows about AI. Students have been using it to help with their school work and regularly chatting with the bot on social media apps. But does the public know about AI taking celebrity voices and creating songs? Yes, it’s true, if you’ve ever heard Lana del Rey sing “Can’t Help Falling In Love” with Elvis Presley, it’s AI!
It’s surprising how much it has grown on social media: there’s Plankton singing “Diamonds” by Rihanna, Toad from Mario singing “Stayin’ Alive”, and even YouTubers singing. The main question that arises, is how is this possible?
Most AI music generators sample a video or audio file of someone’s voice and manipulate it to sing or say whatever they want. The most surprising aspect? It is hard to tell the difference between an original, authentic song or an AI creation.
As this AI technology is still new, there are some flaws and it can be debunked if listened to correctly. Not only are popular artists targets, but the idea of having performers sing the most random songs led to amusing memes such as a toothbrush, or any inanimate object, that makes noise singing “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.
This just shows how creative people can be with AI. Whether for amusement or genuine entertainment, AI enhanced music is here to stay.
