Going through memories when I was younger during these winter months has made me realize how much I miss the snow. People used to have so much fun in the snow playing with their kids. It is one of my core memories as a child. I remember the amount of joy you felt when it snowed, not only because you could play outside, but also the excitement of having a day off from school. I think back to snow days when everyone would go sledding by the 88 Bridge, as right next to it is a perfect downhill slope.
Researchers are saying that 2023 was the warmest winter ever recorded. As explained by CNN, “snowfall is declining globally as temperatures warm because of human-caused climate change, a new analysis and maps from a NOAA climate scientist show.” Warming temperatures explain why there hasn’t been much snow in recent years around the East coast.
I know that not everyone likes the snow because of the hassle, but if it is going to be windy and cold outside, I would rather it be snowing. The lack of snow is also very unfortunate for snowboarders and skiers because a lot of the snow on local mountains this year is artificial; you just can’t get the same experience on fake snow.
It is sad to see over time how people forget the snow days we used to have and how the new generation might not be able to see any snow. Kids today won’t have a chance to make the memories we did when we were younger and will only ever dream of a White Christmas.
