Point Borough Girls Basketball played Neptune High School at Neptune High School on February 1st, 2024. They entered the game with a 9-8 record. They had yet to win a divisional game in the season. They also needed one more win to qualify for the Shore Conference Tournament. They went into the game with a few big losses from Manasquan, Ranney, and Holmdel so they needed this bounce-back win.
The Panthers went into this game hungry. They played very tough and defeated Neptune 57-31. Sarah Dahl was the leading scorer for the Panthers with 15 points, followed by Kate Henn with 14 points. For the Fliers, Christa Ramos was their leading scorer with 9 points.
Kate Henn played a solid game and in a post-game interview with The Point Press she stated “I think that win was the boost our team needed. We had been in a slump lately after losing a few games we knew we could have won, we needed that win.”
The Point Press was also able to talk with Coach Drew after the game and he shared his thoughts on the big program win. He said “Going into Neptune we knew that the program needed a big win, we just did not know when we were going to get it but we felt like it was going to happen. We did not get it against Holmdel, we didn’t get it against Ranney but when we walked into Neptune we got that big win. I am very proud of the dominating effort from beginning to end. It was a signature win for our program and I am very proud of this team”.
Coach Drew talks highly about his team and explains that they never stopped the fight. The Lady Panthers are a team that continues to improve. The win led them to their goal of qualifying for the Shore Conference tournament.
The Panthers kept the momentum going and finished with an above-500 record, 14-11. They truly had an awesome season and finished strong! Congratulations ladies and go Panthers!
