With free agency going underway, there were many big named players on the market, names like Saquon Barkley, Kirk Cousins, and Christian Wilkins. These players ended up getting signed very quickly and for a ton of money. However, other lesser known players that still make an impact on the league remained on the market. One of these players was wide receiver Marquise Brown. Brown had been a consistent player throughout his career and had always been the WR1 for the teams he played. With this being said, there was one team that had been looking for wide receivers since the beginning of the previous season: the Super Bowl Champions, Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs had the receivers with the worst drop to target Ratio in the league and had that problem throughout the entire season. Even with this problem, the Kansas City chiefs were able to over come it and win the super bowl. Although they won, they released Marquez Valdez-Scantling sending a statement that even though they won, they were still looking to get stronger players.
With many receivers on the market including Mike Evans, Tee Higgins, and Michael Pittman, the Chiefs knew they would at least find someone to replace Valdez-Scantling. Within just the first few days, the potential WRs were all resigned and it looked like the Chiefs were going to be stuck with the same awful receivers. Out of nowhere, the Chiefs signed Marquise (Hollywood) Brown, a quick receiver that fits in with the fast and dominant passing Chiefs offense. His contract is only for one season and a cheap $7 million. Compared to other wide receivers, this signing looks like it might be the steal of the year.
Last season, Hollywood Brown played in just six games and had over 500 years and five TDs. Many believe that Brown won’t be as good as he used to be because of the injuries that he had last season, but a lot of that could be attributed to him not wanting to play for a losing Cardinals team. Nobody will know how Brown will be on the Chiefs team. He could be the number one on the team, or he could end up being benched due to injuries.
All we know for sure is that the Chiefs are trying to make a run to be the first ever three-peat Super Bowl Champions.
