When the colorful lights switch on and the ballroom comes to life, the 13 celebrity contestants, with their dance pros, take the dancefloor to dance the night away. The audience waits anxiously in their seats to see what these celebrities have been cooking up in rehearsal. With dramatic contestant backgrounds, like a con artist, the dancers will certainly cause some drama this season. With episodes every Tuesday night there is much to look forward to.
Tuesday, September 17th premiered season 33 of Dancing with the Stars and most of the dances were either the tango, salsa, or cha-cha-cha. There are some big names this season, such as Olympians Illona Maher and Stephen Nedorisk, also known as Mr. Pommel Horse. When the season premiered it had an audience of about 4.97 million viewers which is a 4% increase from last year. The top scorers from the primer were stars Chandler Kinney (most famous for her role in Zombies 2 & 3) and her partner Brandon Armstrong. More recently however, the show has been trending on social media due to a lot of controversial stars being on the dance floor.
Another contestant of high interest would be Ms. Jenn Tran, the most recent bachelorette and also one of the fastest bachelorettes to have an engagement end. When Tran thought she had found her forever with ex-fiance Devin Strade she would be very wrong; in late August Strade called off their engagement over a phone call!
In the Hollywood Reporter article, author Nichole Fell quotes Tran: “I’m really just healing and focusing on me,” and adds that this experience “has been truly amazing.”
The biggest controversy this year, however, surrounds the fake heiress Anna Delvey who just recently got out of jail, in fact, she still wears her ankle monitor on the show. When the news first came out about Delvey being on the show, it shocked many people.
Cited in Entertainment Weekly, author Ashley Boucher quotes Delvey: “I hope that America will get a chance to see a different side of me.”
Delvey is trying to reinvent herself after scamming people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The ice queen is certainly trying to better herself, but will people believe her? After manipulating people into giving her money, as well as free goods and services, will Americans really vote for her?
The next episode was released on Tuesday, September 24th with a theme of Oscar Night and two eliminations happened! The fake heiress Anna Delvey was eliminated along with Tori Spelling.
In a Forbes article recapping episode two, Monica Mercuri captures Delvey’s funny, but odd response: “When asked on stage what she would take away from the competition, Anna responded, ‘Nothing.'” Some may say this was rude and she shouldn’t have said this at all, but on the other side, she could have meant that she didn’t actually steal anything off the set.
The top scorers from Oscar night were Kinney and Armstrong, but following close behind were Mr. Pommel Horse and his partner Rylee Arnold.
The theme for Monday, October 7th is Soul Train Night, and many are wondering what dance style these celebrities are going to be surprising us with next.
