After previous successful seasons, the Point Pleasant Borough Girls Basketball team is going into this upcoming one with confidence, although, this season is different: the girls are in a different division and competing against different teams from the years prior. Even though the Panthers are going into the season playing teams they haven’t before, they still know what to expect and what they need to do in order to be prepared.
A key player for the Panthers this year is Sarah Dahl, who is going to be a main leader and guide her teammates. In an interview with The Point Press, Dahl says, “As this is my last year, I need to be a leader and influential for my teammates by encouraging them all the time.” Sarah also mentions how the team has been preparing by playing in a fall league together and going to practices to get a feel for the things they need to adjust and work on.
The girls have shown mixed emotions about the division they’re competing in this year. They know that it is going to be strange not seeing their usual rivalries, but they’re also excited for this change. The Point Press heard from another key player and her thoughts, Kate Henn. In this interview Henn mentions, “This is a big change we have going into this upcoming season, but this isn’t going to change the way we play together.”
This is a huge change for the upperclassmen, but not as much for the new additions to the team. Henn adds, “It’s weird to think that this year’s freshmen won’t play any of the teams that we know well. It’s a whole new ballpark for us, but they don’t know anything different.”
This adjustment can be looked at in a good way, as the team is working on how to play together cohesively, regardless of the opponent. Also it can ne considered a negative, because they will have to learn to adjust to playing with opponents whose plays are unfamiliar.
We look forward to watching the PPBHS Girls Basketball team take on the challenge in the 2024-2025 season!
