On Wednesday, October 23rd, the Kansas City Chiefs made a big move when they acquired future Hall of Fame Wide Receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a mid-round draft pick.
The Kansas City Chiefs have started the season hot. Through seven weeks, they stand atop the NFL at 6-0 and are the only team left undefeated. However, some injuries and off-field issues make this team far from perfect. Rashee Rice is a big name who just suffered a right knee injury and will likely miss the rest of the season. The standout wide receiver started off the season great with 24 catches, 288 yards, and 2 touchdowns and it will be a big loss for the Chiefs. Veteran wide receiver Marquise Brown has also been sidelined due to a shoulder injury he suffered pre-season. Lastly, Juju Smith-Shuster just went down with a hamstring injury, making it three starting wide receivers injured for the Chiefs.
“They really needed some help…” ESPN analyst and NFL expert Adam Schefter said. With an empty wide receiver room for Patrick Mahomes, DeAndre Hopkins was the most logical person to bring in to help fill the void. Giving up only a 5th-round draft pick that could potentially turn into a 4-th rounder (only if the Chiefs make the Super Bowl and Hopkins plays sixty percent of the snaps), it was the smartest move to make for the Chiefs. Hopkins is a veteran and potential NFL Hall of Famer. In his eleven-year career, he has caught 945 balls for 12,557 yards and 79 touchdowns.
Hopkins brings elite ball knowledge and experience to this Chiefs team, and it will be exciting to see if he is the piece of the puzzle that the Chiefs need to continue their hot streak and remain the top dog in the NFL.
