With the regular season finishing up the Panthers were looking forward to a fresh start in the postseason. Although the season had not gone as originally planned the panthers were showing signs of greatness as they conquered their challenging schedule. Dealing with one of their top players injured, the Panthers handled the adversity well and continued to make the best of these tough situations. The Panthers ended the regular season on a five game win streak, coming away with a big 4-1 win over Rumson, giving them just all the momentum they wanted with the post season nearby.
Knowing that they were going to end up being the three seed in the SCT, the panthers had to embrace the grass and look forward to a potential revenge game against Southern if they wanted to advance in the finals for the fourth year in a row.
They started the tournament off very strong. In the second round, they faced Toms River East and came away with a big 9-0. Then they played Monmouth in the quarterfinals and beat them 8-0. The Panthers were on a roll!
Now it was time! On Tuesday October 28th, The Point Pleasant Panthers would take the drive down to Southern to rematch the Rams in the Shore Conference Tournament Semi Finals. After a tough 2-1 loss in the regular season the Panthers were ready to face them again. This time with a chip on their shoulder and an extremely positive mindset playing on the grass. This game lived up to the hype and even though the score was 0-0 until the fourth quarter, the Panthers dominated possession and controlled the game. With about ten minutes left in the game, Haley Fox would score her first of two goals on the day. Then, with about 12 seconds left in the game, Fox put the game away. Everyone played great, but a special shout out to Josie Walsh who played lights out defense!!
Shore Conference Final Time! On November 2nd, the Panthers would be playing Shore Regional in the championship. They are one win away from completing their revenge tour and becoming back to back Shore Conference Champions!
The game started off fairly even. Both teams got some good looks on goal. However, in the second quarter Shore would take the lead. The Panthers did not give up and Kylie Repasky found the back of the net after deflecting a pass from Codi Damerau later into the 2nd quarter.
The score was tied heading into halftime break. In the third quarter, the Panthers would control the game but it still remained tied. Midway through the fourth quarter it looked like the game was gonna go to overtime. But this would not be the case. With 40 seconds left in the game, Point Boro earned a penalty corner. Kelly Carr called a time out and drew up the perfect corner play. The Panthers went back onto the field and were ready to execute. Kylie Repasky would insert the ball to Haley Fox, pass left to Codi Damerau, then to Camryn Johnson who sent a ball across the cage to Kylie Rapasky, then to Emily Paolella who would give them the 2-1 lead with about 20 seconds left. The buzzer sounded and Point Pleasant Boro would become back to back Shore Conference Champions! Their SCT revenge tour was completed! It was a total team effort!
The Panthers are NOT DONE YET and are looking forward to state playoffs as they begin their journey with Overbrook on Tuesday @ 4pm! Come out and support!! Go Panthers!!
