“Did you know very few people are truly observant of their surroundings? Here’s a test: Do you know how many steps there are in your house or up to your apartment? When you go to the same places every day in the same way, meet the same people, and do the same things, it’s easy to not pay attention to the world!” – Brantford Public Library.
When you walk outside at night, have you noticed drones are flying across the sky above your house?
All over New Jersey news and on the internet, people are complaining that drones are flying across the sky at night “spying” on people. The first sighting of the drones was in Morris County, NJ on November 18th. The drones have spread all across New Jersey and now are mostly in Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and Ocean counties. One of the first sightings was over the Picatinny Arsenal Military Base.
“We’ve been seeing them every night, except Thanksgiving. I guess they took the night off,” area resident Mike Walsh told NBC News. Apparently, due to the FBI hearing about the drones for many nights, they began an investigation. The information that the FBI knows is that the drones are bigger than what hobbyist drones look like. These drones are as big as small planes.
Even though these drones are still a mystery, the FBI is saying this is not a threat to society as of right now. The biggest mystery is who is flying these drones. These drones right now are illegal because they have no names or licenses to fly the drones.
“When I would get up and look out my window at 2 a.m., 4 a.m., they were still hovering,” a witness explained to NBC News. “I got up at 5:30 a.m. this morning and they were still there as the sun was starting to rise. They went back in the same direction they came from, and I expect they’ll be back as soon as the sun goes down tonight.”
On December 5, 2024, the drones made it down to Brick, NJ. The drones were hovering over the town with aircraft planes following them.
Even though the drones are currently considered harmless, they are beginning to create issues. Reporting in Branchburg Township in Somerset County after a car accident, emergency services had to bring a seriously injured person to the hospital using a medical helicopter, but they could not transfer the injured person because the drones were hovering over the area, reported the New York Post.
The FBI is still investigating and now wants people to send in videos of sightings to count the number of drones in the area and help gather more information about them. The FBI comes out with new information each week.
In the meantime, be more aware of your surroundings and look out for drone sightings near you.
