After shocking the entire Shore Conference by winning the SCT as the three seed, the Panthers knew that they were not done yet in their redemption tour. They still had their eyes set on winning the South Jersey Group 2 Sectional Title!
When the brackets came out, Boro had managed to earn the one seed, despite not having the best record, their power points were still extremely high due to the difficulty of schedule. This would make their mission a little easier, but they would have to continue with their strong momentum and energy they have been showcasing on the field since the post season started.
The first game was against Overbrook. The Panthers took care of business and came away with a big 9-0 Win. Goals were scored by Camryn Johnson (2), Kylie Repasky (2), Aubree Piemonte (2), Haley Fox (1), Caity Henry (1), and Codi Damerau (1). Assists were added by Camryn Johnson (2), Codi Damerau (1), Caity Henry (1), and Emily Paolella (1). Onto the next!
The second round game was against a familiar face and a scary opponent to see in the early stages of the tournament, Seneca. Although their record is not the best, they dealt with lots of close losses against top 20 teams in the state. Boro knew they could not take them lightly. Starting the game strong, Boro dominated possession and not before long the score was 4-0 by the start of the fourth quarter. Goals were scored by Codi Damerau (2), Lindsay Jordan, and Kylie Repasky. Camryn Johnson added an assist as well.
The semi final game would be a little bit of a breather for Boro. The Panthers took the lead in the first minute, after Camryn Johnson dribbled into the circle and slipped the ball off the goalie. The final score was 6-0 and the following players contributed to the scoring: Camryn Johnson (2 goals, 2 assists), Kylie Repasky (2 goals, 2 assists), Haley Fox (1 goal), Caity Henry (1 goal), and Lindsay Jordan (1 assist). It was a great team effort and for the third year in a row Point Pleasant Boro was headed to the finals!
November 13th, and what a more perfect day for a big Swiftie team, Point Boro would play Haddonfield for the Sectional trophy. Haddonfield is a deep team with lots of speed and talent, but the Panthers knew that if they showed up and played with all heart the result would not be a question. The day was absolutely freezing, but both teams came ready to play. Haddonfield would take a 1-0 lead in the second quarter, but the Panthers did not quit. They remained relaxed and composed. Haddonfield would be awarded a penalty stroke and have a chance to make the lead 2-0, however the field hockey gods and the post (named Beth) had other plans because the shot hit off the crossbar and not the back of the net. This was the turning point in the game.
Point Boro quickly woke up and when a ball was sent into the circle, Kylie Repasky cleaned it up to tie the game at 1-1. Knowing the score was even going into the fourth quarter, Point Pleasant Boro was not going to let this opportunity slip from them. They all came together in the huddle and all acknowledged how tired they were, but how they had fifteen minutes to leave it all on the field. With about 6 minutes on the clock, Point Boro earned a corner. They took it to the flip slide. The ball was inserted by Kylie Repasky to Camryn Johnson who fired a rocket shot, but the goalie stopped it, however not for long because Codi Damerau was right there to send a perfectly placed shot into the back of the cage. The crowd roared!
But the game was not over yet… Point Boro had to close out these last 5 minutes and no surprise they did just that!! The buzzer sounded and the team stormed the field. It had been done. Back 2 Back 2 Back South Jersey Group 2 Champions! Despite all the adversity this team faced, injuries or tough losses, they kept working and never gave up! Point Boro completes their redemption tour!
They finished their season playing in Bordentown. After playing a strong game, the Panthers could not complete the upset ultimately falling short 2-0 to West Essex, # 4 ranked in the country, in the State Final! Claire Pausz and the entire defense played a solid game and the Panthers held them scoreless until midway through the 3rd.
The Panthers had an amazing season and ended up finishing ranked #7 in the State!! Best of luck to the seniors! Camryn will continue playing at Rutgers and Caity will be attending West Virginia! Point Boro WILL be back next year! Go Panthers!
