On January 23rd, 2025, the Point Pleasant Boro Girls indoor track team became the fastest girls in Ocean County, winning both the indoor championships for the first time and the indoor relays a few weeks prior. They traveled to Toms River’s indoor track and field arena, “The Bubble,” to compete against other teams from the Ocean County area and brought home this historic award.
The girls had been training for this title for months before the races. At Ocean County Relays on January 2nd, their strong performances came out as they dominated the track. Abby Hanemann, Marin Tansey, Sarah Sulzer, and Sophia Gahagan got first for the girls varsity 4 x 400, winning with a time of 4:16, 10 seconds faster than their second-place opponents. Similarly, Codi Dameru, Abby Crowell, Marin Tansey, and Abby Hanemann got first place in the varsity 4 x 200, winning with a time of 1:48. The girls also had strong performances in the varsity 4 x 800, varsity Distance Medley Relay, and JV 4 x 200. All of these performances came together to help the girls win the title of Ocean County Relay Champions for the second time in a row with a score of 49 points.
Then, on January 23rd, the girls returned to The Bubble to compete at the Ocean County Championships. There were so many first-place finishes by the Panthers like the 4 x 400 made up of Sarah Sulzer, Caroline Horn, Katey Lloyd, and Marin Tansey, Jordan Muragila with the 55-meter dash, Abby Hanemann with the 400-meter dash, and Ivy Slavinsky with both the 1600 and 3200-meter dash. Ivy also broke the 27-year-old school record with her 1600 time of 5:05 (She has since rebroken this record with a time of 4:54). There were also lots of strong performances in the 55 hurdles, the 800-meter dash, and pole vault. These performances came together to help the girls win their first indoor Ocean County Champion title with a score of 77 points.
As the rest of the season goes on, the girls have continued to push themselves to win title after title in this historic winter track season.
