A regular sunny day turned to mass terror as many Hispanics citizens were targeted in an unethical and unexpected ICE raid at the Newark seafood depot, on Thursday, January 24, 2025. 

“Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said in a statement on Thursday that ICE ‘raided’ a business in the city and detained ‘undocumented residents, as well as citizens, without producing a warrant,’ reported 6 ABC news. 

The ICE raids occurred, and will most likely continue to occur, due to President Donald Trump’s new policy to find and deport undocumented illegals. According to NBC, ICE hauled out three suspected “illegal” workers, however, one of which was actually a military veteran.

Mayor Baraka stated that the victim “suffered the indignity of having the legitimacy of his military documentation questioned.”

Many other raids have happened across the country, similar to the disastrous raid that took place in Newark, sparking protests all over the U.S. These ICE raids can destroy communities and make many citizens feel unsafe as they are becoming paranoid and feel intimidated by the police.

With the political turmoil surrounding deportations, it’s unclear what will come next for immigrants under the new policy.
