Time is ticking; you are racing against the clock to get your work in on time. Many students find themselves in this position during the final months of the school year. However, waiting until the last minute only leads to unwanted stress and disorganization that can easily be avoided.
Procrastination is defined as the act of voluntarily waiting or delaying a task, despite knowing there can be negative consequences. Some of the most common reasons for procrastination are poor study habits, distractions, too many commitments, and more. While it is understood that people procrastinate more towards the end of the year, it is important to stay on task.
As one PPBHS student admitted, “I find myself procrastinating more at the end of the year, and it makes me more stressed.”
No one wants extra stress, especially teenagers who are juggling so many things at once. It is essential to take precautions to prevent waiting until the due date.
Many ways have been proven to help prevent procrastination. Students can eliminate distractions, for example, staying off their phone, as well as setting goals they can reach, rewarding themselves when they have stayed on task, and holding themselves accountable. These small changes can help students improve study habits and get work done on time.
Let’s finish the year strong!
