Coming off a strong indoor season, the Point Boro Girls Track Team was looking to add one more title to their already historic season: the Lady Panthers sent some of the stellar athletes to compete at the New Balance Nationals in Boston, Massachusetts.
The New Balance Nationals is an extremely high-level event. To compete, you must obtain the qualifying times. At this meet you will find the best athletes in the country running and it is a huge accomplishment to even make it to nationals. In the past, the Panthers have broken many school records and a few years ago made history and became “All Americans” in the Shuttle Hurdles Relay.
Day 1:
On the first day of nationals, the Panthers had two relay teams running. The first was the 4×200 Meter which consisted of Abby Hanemann, Jordan Murgalia, Codi Damerau, and Sophia Gahagan. They would rebreak their own school record by two seconds and run a time of 1:43.68. Way to go girls!
Later in the evening, Jordan and Abby would come back and run in the Sprint Medley (200, 200, 400, 800) alongside Ivy Slavinski and Marin Tansey. The girls did amazing and also broke the school record, placing #9 in the country with a time of 4:10.42!
When speaking to Abby Hanneman, who ran the 400 Meter leg of the SMR race, she said, “I am so proud of these girls and what we accomplished, finishing #9 in the country makes me believe that anything is possible in the upcoming spring season.” We cannot wait to see these girls run more in the spring!
Day 2:
On the second day of nationals, the Panthers had three athletes competing individually: Codi Damerau, who ran the 60-Meter Hurdles, Jordan Muraglia competing in the 60-Meter Dash, and Abby Hanneman in the 200-Meter. All of the girls did amazing and we are so proud of them!
Day 3:
On the final day, the Panthers competed in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay and the Mile. Jordan Muraglia, Sarah Sulzer, Codi Damerau, and Marin Tansey ran in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay and won their heat with a time of 36.22 seconds. Ivy Slavinski, who has been a huge force this season, showed dominance as she ran another stellar time of 4:53.94.
This completed the Panthers’ time at nationals which overall was a huge success for the team members that qualified for this highly competitive meet.
The Panthers had a great indoor season overall, however, they are not satisfied yet and look forward to an even more successful spring season with more personal bests and school records to be broken. In the meantime, catch them at the track where they train for their first meet on April 5th! Go Panthers!
