The Point Pleasant Boro Panthers are coming off a decent season, with many victorious wins and tough losses. The biggest loss was to Governor Livingston in the NJSIAA State Quarter Final.
This year brings change and excitement. The Panthers have a brand new head coach this year, Matt Furlong. Furlong was the freshman baseball coach, and now he is moving up to be the new varsity head coach. Along with Furlong, Point Boro is bringing back a lot of starters from last year, including some new players who will be on varsity.
Point Pleasant Boro Boys Baseball finished out the season with a 10-12 record, ranking them #173 in the state of New Jersey. The boys are not happy about being ranked that low and are going to make a change to the NJ rankings in 2026.
The Panthers only have one state title, but Boro is hoping to make the NJSIAA state tournament again and possibly win this year.
Matt Furlong says, “I am excited for the opportunity to lead the program, which I have been fortunate enough to have been a part of for five seasons. We are excited to build off of the strong foundation we have as a group and develop a culture and identity that will have us compete with pride and develop young men on and off the field along the way.”
As of right now, a preseason prediction, the Panthers look like they will have a good squad when they start their season in the middle of March. The Panthers already have Stockton commit John Loizos and Nick Carmino committed to NJCU and hope to get more college commits before the season.
