Have you ever wondered how fun events for your class happen? Who are the masterminds behind prom and how can you get more involved and help support your class?

Each grade has its own class advisor and set of class officers. Class officer jobs vary and are chosen by the students in each specific graduating class. The jobs include a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations, and added this year for sophomore class, Community Service Liaison.

The Sophomore class advisor is art teacher Mrs. Mitreuter. She shared with us what the job of a class advisor is and she described, “the job of a class advisor is to meet with students and decide how to raise money for the class. As a class advisor, I want to get as many students involved as possible and listen to any and all student ideas. We also operate under the student council umbrella, meaning we support the student council and the events that they run as well as the other classes here at Point Boro.”

Some fundraisers that were done to support the class of 2025 were an apparel sale, pink panther socks for the pink out, Point Pleasant Christmas tree lighting ornaments, and selling Krispy Kreme donuts.

She went on to share with us what upcoming events and fundraisers you can get involved in and the class goals for this year, “I like to call fundraisers FUN with all capitals because they are supposed to be fun (duh) and help students get involved and raise money. This year we are really focused on raising enough money to put a deposit down for prom next year and DJ next year. What some students might not realize is that these events have to be planned almost an entire year in advance! We are planning on doing these upcoming fundraisers — Green bagels for sale for St. Patty’s Day, Car Wash on April 30, and a few local foods give-back days. We are already planning some fundraisers for next fall including the annual Junior vs. Senior Powderpuff Game.”

The class of 2025 held class elections the week of February 6th, and students who wanted to run for a position had to come to an informational meeting regarding the application process. The application was then posted on google classroom for all class of 2025 students to apply. Voting opened on February 8 and ran through the 10th and then winners were announced at the end of the day on Friday, February 10th.

The winners were…Co-presidents Molly Heras and Maggie Blake, Vice president Kiley Hill, Secretary Paige Palumbo, Treasurer Rylie Casalino, Public Relations Officer Justin Vetrini, and Community service Liaison Brayden Merritt.

When asked the class officers told us why they wanted to become class officers and what their responsibilities are as officers.

President Molly Heras shared why she wanted to get involved as an officer: “I wanted to be a class officer because I wanted to help do good for my class and help to raise money for future events. I thought it would be a good idea because I like leadership roles and I thought I would be a good fit because I can speak up and I have good connections that could help us with future events.”

President Maggie Blake shared what her job as Co-president entails explaining, “My job as Co-President is to work with the other president, Molly Heras, to organize fundraisers for our class. We do things like give-back nights, apparel sales, food sales, etc.”

Vice President Kiley Hill added, “I wanted to become a class officer because I feel that it is important to be involved and make the class the best that it can be. As the vice president, I help president Maggie Blake and Molly Heras come up with ideas for fundraisers and help plan our class meetings.”

Secretary Paige Palumbo said, “I’m secretary so I take attendance at all the meetings, and write down any ideas that we have for fundraisers and I keep track of what we do.”

Treasurer Rylie Casalino told us, “I wanted to get involved with my class and organize fun activities for everyone to enjoy and as treasurer, I handle the money and the funds.”

Public Relations Justin Vetrini also shared with us, “As public relations, I make sure that my grade, and many others in the school, are informed about the current events, activities, and fundraisers through posting on our class Instagram.”

Lastly, Community Service Liason Brayden Merritt explained to us, “I really enjoy supporting my class and helping them out. I really wanted to make sure everyone in our class had a good time and a good high school experience. As community service liaison I help plan community events around our community for our class to participate in.”
