After coming off a big win in the Shore Conference Tournament Point Boro showed that they were not satisfied and were ready to add more to their already historic season. The path to the South Jersey Group II Final was not easy. Still, the Panthers continued to show dominance as they defeated Jackson Liberty, Cedar Creek, and Seneca to make it to the final where they would rematch Haddonfield. After defeating the Bulldogs last year in the sectional final with a score of 6-1, the Panthers would have a chance to make history and become back-to-back South Jersey Group II Champions.
On November 7th, the 20-1 Lady Panthers faced the 16-4-1 Bulldogs of Haddonfield. In the first quarter of the game, the Panthers and the Bulldogs were pretty even, staying mainly in the middle of the field. The Panthers eventually drove the ball down into the circle, with a foul causing a penalty corner. When the ball came from the inserter Codi Damerau to Caroline Dekenipp at the straight spot, the ball was fired into the back of the net from a drive. The Bulldogs responded to this with a goal in free play scored by Ava Poliafico. Shortly after that, they converted off a penalty stroke, making the game 2-1 Haddonfield by the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers did not give up and freshman Kylie Repasky tied the game with a goal in the second quarter from a feed by Camryn Johnson. The game continued on, as the Panthers saw the ball at both ends of the field. While on the defensive end of the field, Kylee Durso, Sophia Gahagan, Haley Fox, and Ella Knapp all made a great effort to create defensive takeaways. Goalie Claire Pausz also made many great saves in the goal!
In the third quarter, the golden goal came from the Panthers and was scored by midfielder Camryn Johnson off a corner shot. Panthers took the lead.
During the game’s final quarter, the Panthers tried to hold onto a 3-2 lead. The Panthers played hard for the last 15 minutes to keep the Bulldogs from tying the game. As the play clock ran
to no time left, the Panthers defeated the Bulldogs to become back-to-back South Jersey Group II PB Champions. Congratulations to the Panthers on another great and historical season! Go Panthers!!
