During a tour of Universal Studios in California, a tram cart accident caused a multitude of injuries to a group of visitors. The Los Angeles fire department was called to the street, around 9:00pm on April 20th just 10 miles away from downtown Los Angeles.
California Highway Patrol said that the tour was following the Jurassic Park Cars attraction but turning onto Avenue M, when the last cart of the tram hit a metal guardrail on the right side of the roadway. This caused the car to tilt and eject passengers from the tram. Fifteen patients were sent to the nearest hospital and were evaluated for minor to moderate injuries.
Officials have released a statement concluding that the reasoning for the accident is unknown, however it is clear that the driver was not under the influence.
Universal said the studio tour has resumed with a modified route and the park is “reinforcing our operational and safety protocols” as the celebration of the 60th anniversary for the tram tour is on April 26th.
The tour offers visitors a chance to ride a tram through scenes and locations of some of the studio’s most famous films, while the guide gives information about what is seen.
