Two games prior, the girls won their third sectional title ever against Wall Township.  This win created momentum and pushed them to compete for the Group 2 State Title. 

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Point Boro Girl’s Soccer Team faced Madison at Franklin High School. The game ended with a 3-1 victory for the Panthers, securing their place as Group 2 State Champions for the first time in history.

The game began with a goal from forward Elise Viggiano, giving Point Boro an early lead. During the next half, senior Gabby Mellet headed the ball into the back of the goal off of a corner kick from Abby Hanneman for the team’s second goal. 

Madison countered with a goal, making the score 2-1. However, Point Boro quickly combatted this goal by scoring another. Elise Viggiano passed to Abby Hanneman who fired the ball into the corner of the goal. The score was now sealed at 3-1. 

This accomplishment is not the only history the 2024 girls’ team achieved with their win, they also became the most accomplished girl’s soccer team in school history. This was a successful and fitting end to the high school soccer careers of the seven seniors graduating this year. While the team will feel their absence, the program has a bright future with many talented underclassmen excited to step into their roles.
