On the last day of January, the Point Pleasant Borough Girls Swim team defeated Donovan Catholic with a score of 94-76. This defeat earned the team the B-South title for the first time in the team’s history.

The team placed first in multiple events throughout the meet. In the 200 medley relay, Anna Lombardino, Sarah Santos, Bridget Cleveland and Alexis Jankovich placed first with a time of 2:12:72. Sophomore Alexis Jankovich placed first in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Freshman Bridget Cleveland came in first with a time of 1:06:60 in the 100 Backstroke. Trinity Steinmetz, Sarah Santos, Bridget Cleveland, and Anna Lombardino placed first with a time of 3:58:60 in the 400 freestyle relay.

The team has been performing perfectly as one cohesive unit. Winning as B South Champions and getting to states was our big goal- everything else just made the whole season more gratifying. I couldn’t ask for more from anyone and appreciate the endless support the team has gotten

Captain Trinity Steinmetz said, “Winning B-South Championship was really exciting, but being a senior made it even more special.”

The win against Donovan Catholic allowed the team to advance to the state finals in the 2019 NJSIAA Central, Group C Championship.

Captain Alexa Petersen commented, “The team has been performing perfectly as one cohesive unit. Winning as B South Champions and getting to states was our big goal- everything else just made the whole season more gratifying. I couldn’t ask for more from anyone and appreciate the endless support the team has gotten.”

This is the first time that the girls team has gone to a state final. The team versed Wall Township on Monday, February 4th, and won with a final score of 111-59. This win allowed the team to advance to the second round of the state finals which took place on Wednesday, February 6th.

The Lady Panthers versed Metuchen High School and won with a score of 91-79 at the Raritan Bay Area YMCA.

The team’s next meet will take place on Monday, February 11th, 2019, at the Neptune Aquatic Center against Rumson Fair-Haven at 2:30 p.m.
