This year’s Project Graduation 2020 event fundraising officially got underway earlier this school year with a large slate of fundraisers and other activities scheduled to ensure a fun-filled time for the graduates. Being that this is the 31st year of Point Pleasant Borough’s Project Grad, organizers; Nancy Pazienza and Brain Grainer are working hard to raise money from students and families throughout the year along with donations from the community. This is Mr. Grainer’s second year organizing the event, taking over after Mr. Foley who conducted it for the past 29 years.

Grainer claims that this year’s plan is to return to Sportika in Manalapan as it is a very large facility and provides a lot of space for all the activities arranged. He also made an announcement that “students will be receiving free t-shirts in the near future that can be worn on specific days throughout the year to earn raffle points.”  The year will present itself with many different opportunities where students can wear their t-shirts to have the chance to earn raffle tickets that they may use the night of Project Grad to win prizes.

In past years, it has been proven that graduation night has one of the highest drinking and driving fatality rates. As a result of this, Project Graduation was created in order to entertain the seniors with a drug and alcohol free night, providing tons of games and prizes to keep it interesting and to give the students one last enjoyable night together as the 2020 senior class. On June 19th students will graduate and have to return back to the school around 7:45pm.  From there students will be bused to the complex where they will stay from 9pm-2am.  When the seniors return, breakfast will be cooked by volunteers for the class and they will be dismissed anywhere between 4 and 5 A.M.

The Project Grad season officially got underway with the annual logo design contest where senior students submitted designs and the entire class of 2020 will vote for their favorite. The winning design will be put on T-shirts that every senior receives for free to wear through the year and the night of graduation.

This event heavily depends on four major fundraisers held throughout the year; the annual Holiday Greenery and Poinsettia sale, the Spring Flower Sale, Students vs. Staff basketball game, and the February 2020 adult social. The first scheduled fundraiser; the Holiday Greenery sale has already started and ran until November 25.    The next fundraiser is the Seniors vs. Staff basketball game.  This event is very popular and usually the student favorite fundraiser.  Additionally, the spring flower sale kicks off at the basketball game and runs for the whole month of April, where the flowers can be picked up the first week of May.  The final event is the adult social in February of 2020, where parents are invited to socialize and donate to the cause for their community and even their own kids.

Seniors will also have chances to earn raffle points all year long to win prizes on the night of the event. The past few years prizes have included things like; gift cards, bicycles, kayaks and paddleboards.  Simpy by attending project graduation, every student automatically receives a bank gift card before leaving. Project Graduation 2020 is on Twitter and Facebook trying to reach out to all the seniors and their parents, anyone looking to be included in the email list can reach out to [email protected]
