Olivia Rodrigo’s second album Guts was released September 8, 2023, succeeding her debut Sour. The album has garnered tons of attention even making it to #1 on Billboard Hot 100.
With a lot of pressure from the public following Sour, there were great expectations going into Guts. The album received a perfect rating from Rolling Stones, making it one of the highest-rated albums of the year. The album tells the story of Rodrigo’s experience as a teenage girl and allows others around the globe to relate.
There have been mixed reviews from the public about the album. The students of Point Pleasant Boro High School have also had conflicting views: “wasn’t as good, in my opinion, as her first album, Sour,” Mackenzie Woit, PPBHS student, said.
On the contrary, Mia Rauffer, PPBHS senior, described, “it’s one of my favorite albums of all time now, I really like the pop-punk style and I think it is a good sound for her.”
These mixed reviews are no surprise with the recent rise in hate toward Rodrigo. Despite this, she still continues to release record-breaking music and people continue to tune in. Will the public opinion continue to be skewed?
