Point Boro Field Hockey continues to show dominance in the postseason. Currently ranked #6 in the state and earned the #1 seed in the Shore Conference Tournament. Boro has made the conference final the past 2 seasons and feels they have what it takes to win this year. They entered the tournament with high hopes and so far have not disappointed.
Tournament Recap:
To start off the tournament, the Panthers opened up with a first-round 9-0 win against Barnegat. Goals were scored by Caroline DeKenipp (3), Haley Fox (2), Brianna Boczkus (2), Codi Damerau, and Camryn Johnson. Camryn Johnson had 4 assists, while Codi Damerau and Haley Fox each tallied one.
Then, the Lady Panthers faced Saint Rose in the quarterfinal round. The pouring rain didn’t stop the Panthers and they won 5-0. Goals were scored by Haley Fox (2), Shayne Lada, Camryn Johnson, and Codi Damerau. The Panthers had another strong performance and their defense was on fire.
In the semifinal round, the Panthers played Rumson Fair Haven. This was a great game and Boro came out on top winning 2-0. Brianna Boczkus had the first goal off a rebound in the first quarter. Then Codi Damerau secured the win by finding the back of the net in the third quarter. Claire Pausz recorded another shutout and had seven saves.
The wait is over. Boro will face their rival Shore Regional for the second time this season. The Lady Panthers defeated Shore 3-1 in the regular season.
SCT FINAL GAME:
Point Boro Field Hockey makes history by becoming Shore Conference Champions for the first time since 1989. Point Boro defeated Shore Regional 1-0. This game lived up to the hype and did not disappoint.
Boro dominated, leading the Blue Devils 19-7 with shots on goal. The Panthers struggled to finish but converted off a stroke by Camryn Johnson late in the fourth quarter. This gave the Panthers the 1-0 lead. The Panthers defense was on fire. Defenders Haley Fox, Sophia Gahangan, and Kylee Durso played a major role in the win. Claire Pausz recorded 5 saves and was solid in goal.
Senior captain, Caroline DeKenipp had yet another impressive game and a super strong performance. In an interview with The Point Press she described, “The win feels very rewarding and well deserved. I am very proud of our team, we have been working towards this all season and to come away with the win feels great.”
When describing the end of the game DeKenipp said, “When we had 8 minutes left after Cam scored on the penalty stroke, I was like WOW we can really do this. That’s when it hit me that we were going to be Shore Conference Champions.”
