In one of the biggest matchups of the regular season, the (6-5) Buffalo Bills traveled to Philadelphia to play the (9-1) Eagles. Hype was filled all around these two cities hoping to make it back to the playoffs. Both teams are well respected around the league and known as dominant for their respective conferences. The Bills have had their struggles this season, losing to the Jets in the first week of the season, then the Patriots just a few weeks after. Both divisional teams that put the Dolphins in first and put the Bills in risk of missing the playoffs – meaning this game was a big one for them. For the Eagles, they have the best record in the league. With beating the previous Super Bowl champs the Chiefs just a week prior, many believe that the Eagles are frontrunners to win it all.
With Eagles playmakers Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown in the air and Deandre Swift on the ground, the offense seems to be unstoppable. They’re third in points per game and standing at 9th in yards per game. But with this great offense comes sacrifice… and for the eagles, it comes with their defense. Being 20th in points per game allowed and 19th in yards, it becomes hard for them especially when it comes to playing teams with a great offense, like the Buffalo Bills. Although their season is lackluster, Bills Quarterback Josh Allen has more touchdowns then any other player in the league. With Allen throwing TD passes to his elite receiver Stefon Diggs, the game could be looking like the game of the year.
The game started at 4:25 EST in the cold city of Philadelphia. With slight rain and a high of 51 degrees, it was going to be a battle. After the 1st Quarter, it looked like most of the Eagles games this season. Starting off ahead with their iconic “brotherly shove” play and starting off with a 7-0 lead. But Buffalo wasn’t going to let that slide and decided to have one of the best 2nd Quarters against the Eagles all season. Starting off with a field goal to make is 7-3 then a Josh Allen rushing Touchdown followed to give them the lead at 7-10. But they weren’t done. With just 21 seconds left, Josh Allen connected with Stefon Diggs for the score to increase their lead to 10. The 10-1 eagles were looking like they would get beaten by the struggling bills and in dominant fashion. During halftime, it just got colder and the rain just got worse.
Not much happened in the third quarter. Both teams scored a touchdown, with the Bill’s touchdown being a 16 yard rush from Josh Allen. The Bills were a able to keep their 10 point lead going into the fourth quarter with the score being 24-14. Very quickly the Eagles were able to score, in the first four minutes of the quarter they scored two touchdown passes making the score 28-24, favoring the Eagles. After lots of back and forth the Bills are able to score a touchdown right at the 2 minute mark, leaving little time for the Eagles to do anything. But the Eagles didn’t give up; Jalen Hurts led the offense all the way down the field and with 20 seconds left they were able to get down to the other 42 yard line. Their kicker, Jake Elliot, kicked a 59 yard field goal, in the pouring rain, tying the game at 31. What seemed to be an impossible kick was made and gave the Eagles a chance to win the game. With only seconds left in regular time, the Bills weren’t able to do anything with the short amount of time left.
In a great overtime performance, the Bills got the ball first which is quite the advantage because if they score a touchdown they win immediately, but the Philly defense held them to only a field goal. Now it was all up to the Eagles offense to seal the deal. They did just that, driving down the field with no end in sight, Jalen Hurts finished out the game with a 12 yard rushing touchdown to win the thrilling game.
