Point Boro Journalism students have begun a new initiative, which we named Fit Check Friday. The plan behind this is to showcase students who put effort into their outfits and help others expand their style. This initiative would have a positive impact on students by encouraging confidence, self-expression, and bringing people together. It can help others become more comfortable with their clothing and express themselves.

Nowadays, we live in a judgmental society, and often care too much about what others think. But through our Fit Check Fridays, students can see someone wearing something similar to their own style, and it might make them feel welcomed. Students can also be influenced to express themselves and put effort into their appearance. 

When asking a Point Pleasant Boro student about how they view the idea, and more importantly, how they would interact with it, Liv Wood replied, “If I liked something that someone was wearing, I wouldn’t usually compliment or ask where they got it from. But through Fit Check Friday, students can be featured, and their outfit details are easily available. I would also give a compliment in the comments or like the post, instead of saying something in person. I would tell people about them [Fit Check Fridays] because of the impact it could have.” 

Not only does it help people’s style, but it also helps bring a community together. Instead of teenagers being used to compliment one another through social media, Fit Check Friday would open the door to conversations on complimenting each other’s style, welcoming face-to-face compliments, and building confidence.

The idea seems to interest students. The first Fit Check Friday was done on Halloween, as a silly wya to kick off the new project. The account gained lots of refollowers, and the post gained over 40 shares and 90 likes, proving it to be a great way for others to interact with one another. 

So how does it work? There is an official Fit Check Friday Instagram account (@ppbhs_fitchceck) where students can submit their outfits through DMs, or our Fit Check Officials will hunt down the best styles and interview students about their fits every Friday. As a team, we will decide who will be featured in our weekly post.
