Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” has recently been released, but it seems like this is one of her most controversial albums ever. The reviews of the music are mixed, but commercially, this is one of Taylor’s most successful album releases to date. But what about the music? And why are many loyal fans upset with this album?
I had a conversation with a very loyal fan of Taylor’s music since the beginning of her career, and the advisor of Point Boro’s Taylor Swift Fan Club, Miss Padula. When asked, “What was your initial reaction to the album? Were you excited?” Miss Padula replies, “Yes! I was excited. I was expecting songs with more of a Showgirl theme like ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’or ‘The Lucky One’ where Swift would talk more about her struggles with fame.” I completely agree with Miss Padula. I was also expecting that vibe, as well.
I followed up by asking, “What is your favorite track currently on the album?” and she replied, “Definitely ‘Honey’ and ‘Wi$hli$t’ currently.” Definitely some good picks!
When asked, “What was the track you originally claimed, and did it live up to your expectations?” Miss Padula said, “As a track 5 girly, I claimed ‘Eldest Daughter’, unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations and I was pretty disappointed.” That was also the track I claimed, and I would have to agree that it was not what I was hoping for.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with most of what she had to say. In my opinion, this is not Taylor’s strongest album, and I much prefer her other albums, but that doesn’t mean I hate it, it’s just the one that stands out to me the least, but maybe my opinion will change! It is quite recent, and I know Taylor always has more in store for us, and this album can definitely grow on me. I am just giving it its time and going back to listening to folklore!
