Throughout December, the long-awaited special look into Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour was released in the form of a docuseries with six episodes. The series serves as a final goodbye to the iconic Eras Tour and provides fans with a small look into Taylor Swift’s personal life as she navigates the accomplishments and hardships during her life on tour.
This is a breath of fresh air for me, and for many others who have shared their opinions on it. In my opinion, Swift hasn’t shared as much of her personal life as she used to. She was once very active on social media and had a closer relationship with her fans, which could be a reason for her megastar power. But after years of scrutiny from the public, Swift has pulled her personal life out of the spotlight as much as possible. And in 2020, she released her own documentary, Miss Americana, on Netflix, which was really important and personal as she shared her journey as a singer and a person. But, after the release of the documentary, it seemed Swift took a step back from sharing her personal life with fans even more than she already had.
With less insight into her personal life, and without using her social media to interact with her fans, many think of Swift as more of a brand now. But with the release of the Eras Tour documentary, fans got to see a new side of her again. Swift was open with her thoughts and showed us how fun and happy the tour was, despite her struggles in her personal life. As a natural-born performer, there was no evidence of Swift’s struggles on stage, but the documentary gives us a look behind the curtain, showing fans that it wasn’t always easy for Swift to act so happy in front of millions of people almost every day, but the show must go on. The documentary gave us a look at what makes her human, and it’s something I feel we always have a difficult time seeing with celebrities. Sometimes, they try too hard to be seen as relatable, and we reject them. But despite sharing less on social media, Taylor has always been able to connect with fans naturally through her music, and now through the documentary.
The documentary shows how she was able to make the Eras Tour one of highest grossing tours ever, which Swift humbly credits to her band, dancers, crew, family, and, of course, her fans. The documentary proves that the Eras Tour was a success because of the people Swift chose to have around her, and she chose to highlight these people to share their stories in the documentary.
With the inspiring stories of all those who took part in making the Eras Tour the phenomenon that it was, even people who are not big fans of Swift can find the documentary interesting, and maybe become a fan themselves.
